Thankfully accidents are rare! We’d all prefer it if accidents never happened but sadly they do and the consequences of even a minor accident in a motor vehicle can be very costly. Sometimes damage occurs which isn’t even your fault – but whilst the vehicle is hired to you it remains your responsibility.

The truth is you are probably more likely to have an accident when you’re driving an unfamiliar vehicle so it’s important to understand what you are responsible for. We know some car rental companies have a poor reputation when it comes to damage, but at Pentagon Hire the emphasis is always on fairness, openness and honesty.

Our promise to you is that we will always seek to minimise the cost of such damage, however, a new windscreen in one of our vans could cost £500 or more, a wing mirror over £120, tyres can be over £100 each or a simple parking scrape could cost hundreds.

COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE COVER is included in your hire fee subject to a policy EXCESS. You can choose to reduce your acceptable excess by opting for Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) at the time of booking.

POLICY EXCESS & CDW

* This is a minimum excess. Some hires may be subject to higher excess rates you will be advised at the time of quotation and when you sign your hire agreement.

Who is Eligible?

• UK Licence Holders over the age of 25 who have held a FULL licence for two years or more. Your licence must be produced in person when collecting the vehicle.
• NON-UK Licence Holders are subject to a £1,000 excess which cannot be waived. Remember that this excess may be covered by your travel insurance provider or credit card.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

Qualifying drivers may opt to take our Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) which reduces the Excess in return for a daily premium charge.  The CDW does not cover deliberate malicious or negligent damage, or the following;

• Interior damage
• Overhead damage
• Under-body damage
• Damage caused by use of the wrong fuel
• Loss of or damage to/breakage to keys and consequential costs.
• Windscreen Damage
• Tyre Damage

Special arrangements for European Travel

Our Insurance and Breakdown cover is not valid outside mainland England, Scotland & Wales. If you wish to leave mainland UK you will be required to make special arrangements at the start of your hire. ALL non UK Mainland travel is subject to a £1,000 excess which cannot be covered by CDW.

We are happy to quote you for these hires and offer competitive rates.

Please note this also applies to Northern Ireland, ROI and Channel Islands.

Exclusions

We cannot insure some drivers on our insurance.

These include younger or inexperienced drivers, disqualified drivers, drivers with too many points on their licence, and some foreign licence holders.

The following items cannot be insured, and hirers are responsible for full costs incurred; damage above cab height, interior damage (seats, roof etc.), damage caused by abuse, maliciously, or by negligence – i.e. using the wrong fuel type and incidents involving keys.
